Senior Database Developer – London

We are looking for an experienced Senior Database Developer to join our growing Tech team, to own and evolve the company’s 2 large MS SQL database servers as well as create, maintain and enhancements dataflow processes and system integrations. 

This role would be a great fit for a self-starter with a knack for problem-solving and will be able to pick up new skills easily. Excellent Transact-SQL, proven DB optimisation proficiency and effective DB security implementation is a must, but good communication skills, an approachable personality and prior knowledge/experience of the media industry will also be beneficial, however not essential. 

What you’re be doing:

  • Create, maintain, improve and monitor various ETL processes through T-SQL and SSIS
  • Create and maintain database objects (incl. databases, tables, indexes, stored procedures, triggers, SQL Agent Jobs) using MS SQL Server 2014+ Enterprise Edition
  • Performance Tuning and Optimization: interpreting query execution plans, indexing strategies, transaction management, locking and blocking, data compression, partitioning
  • Ensure that T-SQL code meets company standards for readability, reliability, and performance
  • Trace and monitor database performance issues
  • Work with external development teams to ensure effective DB structure and query design
  • Develop and enhance reports
  • Create, monitor and manage server ACL and privileges for website, process and vendor integrations
  • Maintain data security and recovery control (ensure all data is retrievable in a Dr scenario)
  • Manage Linked Server integrations
  • Communicating regularly with Director of Technology and data analysts as well as technical and operational staff to ensure database efficiency, integrity and security
  • Guide, train and assist data analysts and other developers on T-SQL best practice
  • Monitor and assist with physical and AWS cloud database infrastructure
  • Keep up to date with developments in the industry and identify possible business opportunities
  • Maintain the company’s database environment documentation
  • Upgrade, install and configure new SQL Servers

You will report directly into the Director of Technology and will work closely with internal teams as well as the offshore development team. Although the Director of Technology will be closely involved with the database evolution, you will take on a leading role to ensure effective data operation and efficiency is achieved.

Required Skills:

  • MS SQL 2014+
  • Strong Transact SQL (SQL 2014+)
  • Very strong troubleshooting and insight abilities
  • Experience using profiler to optimise SQL queries and processes
  • Experience with SSIS package creation and maintenance
  • DB Optimisation Experience and Confidence
  • Familiarity with the wider Business Intelligence Stack: SSRS and data warehouse technologies
  • Project Management Skills
  • MS SQL Server management experience
  • MS SQL DB security assurance and credential manager experience
  • Strong Communicator
  • Strong Organisational Skills
